Friday Finish

Hooray! I have a Friday finish to share... sort of! I finished the first quilt for my new book so I really can't share the details. I can, however, share some of the fabulous colors. I worked on this while my husband and were at the coast last weekend. The colors remind me a bit more of a Florida beach than an Oregon beach, but I'll take beach just about anywhere I can find it. :)

Today I'm linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts and Confessions of a Fabric Addict. Check out their sites for more Friday finishes.

Organizing Patterns

A post on Facebook this morning made me think about how I organize my patterns. It's a little easier to explain with photos, so here goes. I collect patterns from magazines, buy PDF downloads and paper copies, etc. but needed a better way to keep track of all of them. I'm also working on my second book and need a good way to keep track of what I'm doing. I designed a Word document to act as a Table of Contents for all of my patterns. (I'm only going to display my own designs here as I don't want to worry about copyright issues.) As you can see, the table includes a thumbnail sketch of the quilt along with pertinent design information. My patterns are scanned and saved as PDF documents on my computer and it's easy to retrieve the one I need once I know what it looks like! One bit of advice here... be sure to back up your computer on a regular basis. Ask me how I know.  :)

You can use different categories that suit your tastes. The great thing about using a Word document is that you can sort the table by size, by category, by name, etc. I'm sure this same thing can be done with other software, I'm just most familiar with Word. Hope this helps!

New Mystery Quilt-Along Clue!

What a glorious day at the Oregon coast! I understand the rain stopped this morning at 3 am and we're supposed to have 2" of rain tomorrow, so I'm going to enjoy this while I can. Because my husband and I are traveling, I won't be able to reveal my next clue at the Westside Quilters Guild Sewing Saturday. Members get together once a month to just sew, sew, sew. At least once a year that sewing is devoted to making charity quilts. Three times in 2015 that Sewing Saturday will become a three-day event! You set up on Friday, and come and go as you please through Sunday afternoon. Sleep in your own bed, figure out your own meals, sew, socialize, learn, and laugh. Lots of laughing going on!

If you click on the 2014 Mystery Quilt Along tab, you'll see our clue for January. Another easy peasy clue this month. I can't wait to see everyone's quilts!

The Pine Needle

On Friday and Saturday I'll be at The Pine Needle (Lake Oswego, Oregon) signing my books and encouraging quilters.  Stop by and say hi if you're in the area!  (I'm still like a little kid at Christmas when I see my book, or quilts, in print! This is the inside front cover of The Pine Needle catalog). Yes, that's my book and yes, that's a supersized version of one of the quilts on the cover.
